An unused minor league baseball stadium that's falling into disrepair in Louisiana could be demolished and turned into a parking lot under a bond proposal.
Shreveport Public Assembly & Recreation director Shelly Ragle told community meeting attendees Thursday that the demolition of Fair Grounds Field is part of a $186 million bond proposal voters will consider in November.
The Shreveport Times reports Ragle's mention of the $1 million demolition project drew a negative reaction from several attendees.
Fair Grounds Field was built in 1986 and was the home of the Shreveport Swamp Dragons. But the newspaper says the team has since moved from the city and the stadium has fallen far out of code.
Ragle says if kept, the stadium would require costly repairs with no team to occupy it.
