Louisiana Department of Corrections
Drugs were found inside of an employee's car at the Louisiana State Penitentiary.

Louisiana State Penitentiary investigators continued their aggressive crackdown on drugs and contraband. A shakedown during Thursday's 5:00 a.m. shift change at the prison resulted in the discovery of various drugs inside an employee's vehicle, and the arrest of a corrections officer.

West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Deputies booked 40-year-old Crystal Jenkins of 603 Natchez Street, Woodville, Mississippi, with three counts of Distribution of Schedule 1 Narcotics (ecstasy, synthetic marijuana, marijuana), one count of Distribution of Schedule 2 Narcotics (heroin),

Possession with Intent to Distribute Schedule 2 (methamphetamine), and one count of Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution. During Thursday's shakedown, investigators found 14 grams of heroin, 1 ounce of heroin powder, 11.8 ounces of marijuana, 3.4 ounces of synthetic marijuana, 4 ounces of methamphetamine, and a digital scale inside Jenkins' vehicle. The drugs and the scale were packaged inside a coffee bag and gift wrapped.

Jenkins had been employed at Louisiana State Penitentiary since August 13, 2018. During questioning, she admitted to the crimes to DOC investigators, and resigned.
