Traffic Congestion

The state Department of Transportation’s Motorist Assistance Patrol Program, or MAP program, is headed to Alexandria to help with serious congestion problems in the region. Deidrea Druilhet with DOTD says the goal of introducing the MAP program to this central Louisiana area is to get traffic back to peak capacity by providing free help to drivers.

Druilhet says the MAP program has proven successful in Lake Charles, Baton Rouge, Shreveport and New Orleans. She says patrols will be out to assist on local highways, not just I-49.

Druilhet says these trucks are capable of moving stalled vehicles out of traffic lanes onto the shoulder. She says there are multiple ways to contact the program to get a MAP truck out to assist a disabled vehicle.
