Founder of New Music on the Bayou, Dr. Mel Mobley never thought his creation would reach its tenth anniversary. New Music on the Bayou’s annual summer festival is to be held on the first weekend of June. Composers travel from around the globe to Northeast Louisiana to showcase their music. The festival has seen talent from countries such as England, Italy, and Taiwan. The festival will take place from June 3 to June 6. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $25 or online ahead of the event. Students get in free of charge.
In preparation for the milestone, an anniversary fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, February 13th at 7:00 PM. The fundraiser will be held at Grace Episcopal Church, located at 405 Glenmar Ave. New Music on the Bayou is set to host its first proper concert during the event. Expect a telling of the history of New Music on the Bayou, highlights, and various pieces to be performed.
In Dr. Mobley's own words. “The variety is quite stunning.”
Once the concert concludes, the reception will begin, marking the hallmark of New Music on the Bayou. Attendees will have the opportunity to interact with the performers. A silent auction will be held, featuring items such as tickets to the Monroe Symphony, wine, yoga memberships, and artwork from local artists. New Music on the Bayou eagerly welcomes all to both events. For more information, visit www.newmusiconthebayou.com
