40th Annual Don Weems Memorial Chili Cook-Off Returns to The Grove

The Don Weems Memorial Chili Cook-Off is back for its 40th year on November 15 at The Grove. Students, alumni, faculty, and community members are invited to compete or taste their way through a variety of chili recipes.

Teams of up to six must prepare their chili from scratch on-site, with awards given in Open and Student divisions and a separate People’s Choice Award determined by attendees. Each team will receive a Head Cook apron and tasting supplies but must bring their own cooking equipment. Team registration closes November 13.

For those not competing, a tasting wristband for $10 provides access to all chili entries and one vote for the People’s Choice Award. Tastings begin at 11:30 a.m., with additional votes available for $1 each.

Started in 1984 by Tom Deal, Frank Elkin III, and Don Weems, the cook-off is hosted annually by the 31 Ambassadors & Alumni Association and has become a long-standing campus tradition celebrating culinary creativity and community spirit.
