ULM to Host Annual CBSS Symposium with Resilience Keynote

The College of Business and Social Sciences is set to hold its annual premier lecture and seminar series from October 27-30, 2025. The symposium will center on the theme "Superpowers: Discover Yours, Transform the World" and will feature a keynote address by resilience expert Jim Davidson, elevator pitch competition, a career fair and numerous speaker sessions open to the public.

The centerpiece of the symposium is the keynote address, "Everest Resilience: Overcoming Adversity and Reaching High Goals," delivered by Davidson on Wednesday, October 29, at 11:00 a.m. at Bayou Point Event Center.
Davidson, a noted resilience expert, will share insights drawn from his experience surviving two major mountain disasters. His presentation will cover practical strategies for perseverance, team work, leadership, and post-traumatic growth gathered from his 42 years of global adventures.

Students looking to sharpen their professional skills can participate in the Elevator Pitch Competition on Tuesday, October 28, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in The Hangar, hosted in partnership with the Office of Career Development. Participants will have 90 seconds to deliver their best pitch for a chance to win prizes—and audience members can win too through door prize drawings.

The friendly rivalry continues later in the week with the CBSS Brain Bowl on Wednesday, October 29, from 4 to 6 p.m. in The Hangar, where teams of students, faculty, and professionals will compete in a fast-paced trivia challenge representing each school within the College.

All CBSS Symposium sessions are free and open to the public. Students are encouraged to attend, network, and take advantage of opportunities to connect with professionals and alumni.
