The Rollin' on the Riverfront fall event, originally set for this upcoming Saturday, has been cancelled due to weather conditions. Organizers say there are no concrete plans set to reschedule at this time, though a spring event may be considered.
Despite the cancellation, Downtown Monroe is gearing up for the busy holiday season. Kicking off the holiday season with the annual Christmas tree lighting, the first week of December is lined up with events for all to enjoy.
Highlights include Holidays on Main Marketplace, which is usually held in the downtown area but will be moved to the Civic Center this year. Attendees can also look forward to the Christmas parade along with a firework show. Also, the bimonthly Gallery Crawl, all highlighting the charm of Monroe's revitalized downtown district.
Downtown Monroe Main Street director Nirali Patel, says the progress on the ongoing street improvements is nearing completion. The project focused on pedestrian safety, upgraded lighting, and creating a more walkable, welcoming downtown. Patel says downtown is "on the rise" with the new addition of Hotel Monroe, which has brought increased foot traffic to the area.
