Glenwood Hospital operator files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

Cory Crowe

The largest physician-owned hospital group, Steward Health, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Steward operates West Monroe's Glenwood Medical Center has struggled over the last few years with liquidity issues.

Steward Health said in a statement that nothing will change in the day-to-day operation of its facilities. “Steward’s hospitals, medical centers and physician’s offices are open and continuing to serve patients and the broader community and our commitment to our employees will not change.”

West Monroe Mayor Staci Mitchell released a statement concerning Glenwood:

“The West Monroe Mayor’s Office is aware that Steward Health Care has filed under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code to restructure. Glenwood Regional Medical Center remains open and continues to provide quality healthcare to its patients, including its Emergency Room.

We cannot thank the employees of Glenwood Regional Medical Center enough for their
dedication and tireless efforts to provide healthcare to the public during these challenging times.

The West Monroe Mayor’s Office is working closely with the Hospital Service District #1 and Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals to monitor this situation and to ensure the health and safety of our citizens."
