Fireworks Scheduled For Saturday, July 4 In West Monroe
The public is invited to downtown West Monroe to safely celebrate our nation’s independence at a July 4 fireworks show on Saturday, July 4 at 9 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Downtown West Monroe Revitalization Group, The City of West Monroe, Discover Monroe-West Monroe, Vanguard Reality and 90.3 KEDM Public Radio.
Event organizers encourage attendees to view the fireworks within their small family groups and avoid large gatherings. A family viewing area will be set up in downtown West Monroe in the grassy lot on the corner of Commerce and Wood Street with spaces marked for social distancing. The levee near Lazarre Park will also be available for public viewing of the fireworks.
Out of an abundance of caution, additional activities that had been planned for July 4 in downtown West Monroe have all been cancelled. It is strongly recommended those in attendance wear face masks and practice social distancing. Attendees are encouraged to view the fireworks in their family groups and to immediately depart the viewing area upon completion of the show. Patriotic music will be provided by 90.3 KEDM Public Radio beginning at 7:00 p.m. and the fireworks show music will be broadcast on 90.3 FM at 9:00 p.m.
In preparation for the fireworks show, the following street closures will take place:
- The Endom Bridge will close to all vehicular traffic at 7:30 p.m.
- Coleman Avenue at S. 1st Street and North Riverfront at the railroad tracks will close at approximately 8:30 p.m.
- The northbound lane of South Riverfront will close at approximately 8:30 p.m.
In the event of rain, the fireworks show will continue to take place on July 4, but the timing could be delayed. In the event of extreme rain, the fireworks show could be rescheduled for Sunday, July 5.
Please monitor the City of West Monroe’s website and social media pages for updates. For those who prefer to stay home on July 4, the fireworks show will be live-streamed on Facebook by the City of West Monroe and the Downtown Revitalization Group.
