Lauren Greenlief, who barely made the tournament cut, has won the U.S. Women's Mid-Amateur Golf Championship at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant.

Greenlief faced Margaret Shirley, who was appearing in the final round for the third straight year.  Greenlief, of Oakton, Virginia, made it to the final after defeating California's Whitney Britton.  Shirley landed in the final after besting Monroe's Ashley Tonore.

The two finalists matched each other's play for nearly the entire course.  Alas, Greenlief made a birdie on the 17th hole at Squire Creek to secure the win, 8-6.

The 25-year-old University of Virginia alum becomes the youngest player to win the championship by three months.
