Monroe Welcomes State Horseshoe Pitching Doubles Tournament

Teams from across Louisiana participate in the State Horseshoe Pitching Doubles Tournament this weekend in Monroe.

Ouachita Horseshoe Pitchers Club member Buddy Townsend says Chennault Park is set to host the series of matches today and Saturday.  "We have a dozen pits ready for the competition.  Shelter 4 is the main location for the tournament.  Class divisions are set for men, women, and youth," said Townsend.

Points awarded for matches are tallied for an overall score to determine champions and top finishers.  Townsend is excited for Monroe to host the state tourney.  "It's quite an honor, especially since the local club was founded just last year.  We hosted the World tournament in 2011, and are hopeful to bid for the 2017 World tournament," he said.

Saturday's final rounds of the state tournament begin at 8 a.m.
