The role of Mama Rose in the musical Gypsy is something Jeanine Patton has dreamed of since childhood.

"Growing up, this was the one role that always fascinated me.  There is such a wide range of emotions she deals with in the show," said Patton, who is cast in the lead role of Strauss' production.

The memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee serve as the basis of the 1959 musical.  Mama Rose, the overachieving mother of two daughters, is bent on having the two girls succeed.  It is a mission that is mired in Rose's own complex issues with relationships and romance.  "There's a challenge in bringing understanding to the audience about Rose and the way she gets along with her daughters," Patton said.

Performances of Gypsy are September 18-20, and September 25 & 26.  Information at: www.strausstheatrecenter.com
