ULM welcomes S.J. Tuohy as new athletics director

MONROE, La. – The University of Louisiana Monroe has announced the appointment of S.J. Tuohy as the university’s next director of athletics. Tuohy joins ULM after serving as the deputy athletic director of development at Oral Roberts University, bringing a strong background in athletic administration, operations, and student-athlete support.

ULM President Dr. Carrie L. Castille said Tuohy distinguished himself through his leadership skills, passion for student-athlete development, and proven record of advancing athletic programs. She noted that his experience across multiple NCAA Division I institutions makes him well prepared to lead ULM into its next stage of growth.

“S.J. brings the energy and experience we need to take our athletic department into the future,” said Castille. “He is passionate about this job and this university, and he is committed to serving in this role with excellence. His vision aligns with where we believe ULM Athletics is headed.”

A Memphis native, Tuohy graduated from Loyola University Maryland in 2016 after competing in basketball for four seasons. He went on to earn a master’s degree in humanities from SMU, where he also played one season of football on special teams. His early career included key operational roles at Arkansas and Liberty University before his move to UCF, where he advanced to associate athletics director and chief of staff. He later served as executive director of The Kingdom NIL collective before joining Oral Roberts in 2024.

Tuohy said he is honored to join ULM and eager to begin collaborating with student-athletes, coaches, and staff.

“I want to thank Dr. Castille for giving me the opportunity to serve this university and community,” said Tuohy. “I believe we are approaching a transformational time for ULM Athletics, and I am thrilled to play a part in that change. I can’t wait to get to Monroe and get to work.”

As director of athletics, Tuohy will oversee ULM’s 16 NCAA Division I teams competing in the Sun Belt Conference. Head Football Coach Bryant Vincent has served as interim director of athletics since August.

Tuohy was selected following a national search led by ULM Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Michelle McEacharn. His appointment is pending approval by the University of Louisiana System Board of Supervisors.

Information regarding his introductory press conference will be released soon.
