Concert Choir performance on March 12

On March 12, the University of Louisiana Monroe Concert Choir is set to perform at Parkview Baptist Church at 7:30 pm. Chamber Singers will also be joining Concert Choir as a preview to their upcoming concert in April.

This is the group’s spring concert, and it happens to be occurring earlier this year than normal. A variety of styles of music was selected, which will please audiences of all ages.

"We're always looking forward to our concerts because of the hard work and dedication that the kids put into it,” said Dr. Deborah Chandler, Director of ULM Choral Activities. “I love seeing how it all comes together in the end in the sanctuary of Parkview Baptist."

Pieces that will be performed are “Sanctus” (a capella eight-part piece) by Craig Courtney; “My Soul's Been Anchored in the Lord” by the late New Orleans, La. native Moses Hogan; “Adiemus” by Carl Jenkins and (playing flute will be Marcus Jackson and percussion Madison DeCou and Ethan Williams); and more.

Tickets for admission are $5 for general admission, while ULM students can get in for free with ID.

ULM Professor of Flute to perform with ULM graduates for Monroe Symphony Orchestra Series MSO Presents on March 14

Sandra Lunte, Professor of Flute at ULM since 1995, joined by former ULM flute students Sarah Owens (grad ‘22), John Rea (grad ‘11), and Mallory Sanchez (grad ‘12.), will be performing as part of a series called “MSO Presents”, which is sponsored by the Monroe Symphony Orchestra. This evening of flute quartet music will take place on March 14 at 7:00 pm in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.

“I am so incredibly honored and excited to be joined by three of my former ULM flute students for this performance! Sarah Owens, John Rea, and Mallory Sanchez and I have been loving spending time together and rehearsing this challenging and fun music,” Dr. Lunte said. “It has been my privilege and joy that all these former students have chosen to stay in my life and be my friends.”

MSO Presents is a performance series that started in 2019 as a way to give performers an opportunity to play chamber music for audiences. Chamber music is defined as musicians participating in small ensembles, with no more than 13 players, and each player is assigned their own part in the music.

MSO Presents originally came about to give additional offerings to audience and orchestra members since there are only four concerts per year. This allows for audience members and musicians to connect on a more intimate level.

Tickets can be purchased at www.mymso.org. General Admission tickets are $20, while tickets for those aged 12 years and under can be purchased for $10. This event is free for ULM Students with ID.
