Arts Council Film Series Returns

The Northeast Louisiana Arts Council returns this summer with an exciting line-up of films beginning this month.

The Northeast Louisiana Summer Film Series debuted in 2018 with its first four-month run of films that have some Louisiana connections. "These films are either Louisiana made or have some Louisiana connection. We're proud to promote film as an art form each summer," said Barry C. Stevens, Arts Council President/CEO. "We've been very happy with the response we've received since this series began in 2018."

The 2022 series kicks off Wednesday, May 18 with a short film night. The line-up includes LEA, a tribute to the life and ministry of local Reverend Lea Joyner. Beginning in June 1952 with a vacant lot, no people, no building, and half the money generally given new churches by the Louisiana Methodist conference, over the next 33 years Lea's church grew to include over 2,000 members. Also being shown is Louisiana Tapestry, which is two short films celebrating two northeast Louisiana culture bearers Enoch Doyle Jeter and VP Dalrymple.

The remaining films for the summer are The Whole Gritty City, My Louisiana Love, and Bayou Maharajah.

All films will be shown at Flying Tiger Brewery, 506 N. 2nd Street, Monroe. Tickets for non-Arts Council members at $5. Arts Council members receive free entry.

Barry said, "You can come to Flying Tiger anytime after 4. The films will start around 7, it's kind of based on the sunlight, but we shoot for around 7."
