Elisha Ministries is hosting Understanding The Dynamics of Poverty this Wednesday, Oct. 16, from 8 am - 4 pm. The event will be held at the Ruston Civic Center in the Peach Suite on 401 Trenton St, Ruston.

The program being sponsored that day is a research-based poverty training to assist direct providers to understand and identify effective stratagies to support, encourage, and empower those affected to break the poverty cycle. The entrace fee is free to all that attend.

Elisha Ministries (EM) is a local organization that has dedicated 15 years of services to individuals affected by poverty, homelessness, mental illness, substance abuse, and unemployment. Since its founding, the group has shown evidence of effective change and economic stability in the growing population.

EM's program, Understanding the Dynamics of Poverty, is one of many events that the group puts on to spread awareness and help those in poverty. It is a one-day professional development training that helps social service workers, case managers, and others who work with people raised in generational poverty understand the issue's impact on individuals, families, and societies.

Gloria Mays, executive director of EM, says, "There was a Census Bureau report that was just introduced this year in Sept. 28th, and Louisiana ranked second highest in poverty levels. Even though the state has gone through some progressive changes, we still linger, and poverty is a major concern."

Elisha Ministries believes that programs like Understanding the Dynamics of Poverty is the perfect way to combat this issue, and invites all those who can help to learn how to tackle poverty head on.
