Truck Driver Accused Of Assault on on I-20

An Alabama truck driver has been accused of assualt after an early morning incident on Interstate 20. Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a report of an aggravated assault at the 108 exit on I-20 in West Monroe at 5:54 a.m. this morning. 

 

An OPSO investigation indicated the suspect, Jeremy Rex Cantrell, age 38 of Alabama, a commercial truck driver, was armed with a handgun and allegedly forced 2 passengers to exit his truck at the location.  The truck was parked upon arrival and suspect was inside the cab, still armed with the handgun.  Deputies were able to take the Cantrell into custody without further incident and he was subsequently booked in OCC. 

 

He is charged with 1 count of Agg. Assault with a Firearm, 1 count Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and one count Possess of Methamphetamine.
