Two new mergers have been announced in the last couple of days: General Electric and Baker Hughes are moving to combine their oil and gas businesses, and CenturyLink says it will buy Level 3 Communications to create a bigger telecommunications internet-service provider.
These are just the latest moves in a string of high-profile deals announced recently. The Associated Press says U.S. companies are cutting merger deals at a record pace.
