The Strauss Theatre Center is set to ignite the stage with America 250: A Celebration of Freedom honoring the nation's 250th birthday. Described as a "patriotic Cotton Land Christmas," the production features a massive cast of community members bringing American history to life through music, dance, and storytelling.
The show is the brainchild of producer Vickie Krutzer and musical director of Dr. D.H. Clark. The performance will be accompanied by a live eight-piece orchestra featuring some of the region's finest instrumentalists.
"It really is dozens of community members telling the story of our country while also singing some of the most beautiful patriotic music we have at our disposal," said performer Taylor Michiels.
The production weaves together a diverse musical tapestry, ranging from Broadway hits like Hamilton and 1776 to traditional favorites like "Yankee Doodle Dandy." The script is written by theater veteran Ken Woodard and connects the high and low points of the founding and development of American democracy.
Iconic figures like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, and lesser-known heroes like Crispus Attucks and Nathan Hale make appearances in the show.
