Monroe Police Department arrest suspect in theft and crash incident

The Monroe Police Department arrested Candace Gill at approximately 11 p.m. on Tuesday, May 11.

According to the Monroe Police Department, they received a tip on the whereabouts of Gill. Officers were led to an apartment complex in West Monroe where Gill was taken into custody without incident.

Gill is currently being held at the Ouachita Correctional Center.

Gill was a suspect in an investigation for theft at Walmart in Monroe that happened shortly before 6:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9. Gill fled from police who attempted a routine traffic stop which resulted in a car crash that injured two people and killed two others.

One of the passengers in Gill's car, Edward Williams was pronounced dead at the scene due to his wounds resulting from the crash. Gill's daughter, a five-week-old baby, was also a passenger in the vehicle. Monroe Police Department believes the child was not properly restrained which ultimately led to her death at the hospital.

The two people in the vehicle that Gill collided with also endured non-life-threatening injuries.

According to arrest records, Gill is wanted for two counts of Manslaughter, four counts of Negligent Injury, Theft, Possession and Theft of a firearm, Simple Battery, Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling, Aggravated Obstruction of a highway, and several traffic violations.
