City of West Monroe and Ouachita Parish School Board Break Ground on Riverbend Community Health Park

The City of West Monroe and Ouachita Parish School Board broke ground today on the Riverbend Community Health Park.

The park is a joint project between the City of West Monroe and Ouachita Parish School Board on property adjacent to Riverbend Elementary and the West Monroe Community Center, where a groundbreaking ceremony was held April 30.

Representatives from the City of West Monroe, Ouachita Parish School Board, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation and the Living Well Foundation along with other civic leaders joined to celebrate the beginning of this project.

Funding for this project was made possible by a $50,000 grant provided by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana Foundation and a $30,000 grant from the Living Well Foundation.

The Riverbend Community Health Park will include the construction of a walking trail and installation of outdoor fitness equipment, benches and trash receptacles.

The Riverbend Community Health Park will be used by Riverbend Elementary School during P.E. classes and Field Day events as well as the site for outdoor class activities and events that focus on physical fitness and nutrition.

Parents and community members will be encouraged to use the park on their personal time and during community-sponsored events. The West Monroe Community Center will host a variety of community activities and fitness events throughout the year.
