Police: 13-Year-Old Fatally Shot 6-Year-Old Boy in Backyard

Police in Baton Rouge have arrested a 13-year-old boy accused of fatally shooting a 6-year-old boy in a backyard.

Baton Rouge police spokesman Sgt. Don Coppola Jr. told local news media Saturday that the unnamed 13-year-old had been booked into a juvenile detention center on charges of second-degree murder and illegal possession of a firearm by a juvenile.

The dead boy was Jahiem Holliday. His grandmother, Kendra Holliday, says he was in the second grade.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting or if it was intentional. Investigators say the children had been playing in the yard. Residents say the home was a common place for children in the neighborhood to gather and play.
