Scotty Robinson of the Ouachita Parish Police Jury issued a state of emergency Wednesday morning due to severe weather. He says severe conditions have led to several road closures in the Monroe and West Monroe areas.
"We've got roads blocked off, we've got some trees down, we've got some wrecks," says Robinson, Police Juror, District A.
Several schools have announced closures Wednesday. The University of Louisiana Monroe, Louisiana Delta Community College, Louisiana Tech University, Grambling State University, including all Ouachita Parish schools are closed Wednesday and expected to reopen Mar. 10.
Meanwhile, Robinson advises residents to use caution.
"Stay home, don't drive if you come across a road with any amount of water," says Robinson.
Robinson says sandbags are available at Ticheli Rd. on Hwy 165 and at the rifle range on New Natchitoches Rd. in West Monroe, and at the Monroe Civic Center.
He says there's no limit on sandbags at this time.
