School Closures for Monday, February 23

The threat of winter weather in northeast Louisiana is forcing closures for area schools. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning from 9 p.m. Sunday, February 22 through 6 p.m. Monday, February 23.

Forecasters predict that a round of freezing rain and sleet will move through the area Monday afternoon and evening, with possible accumulation of 0.2 to 0.2 inches. Ice may cause travel difficulties on roadways and bridges. Ice accumulation of up to a quarter of an inch may cause scattered power outages, as well.

Authorities recommend limiting travel as much as possible.

The following schools are closed Monday due to winter storm weather conditions:

  • Lincoln Parish
  • Union Parish
  • Ouachita Parish
  • Monroe City
  • Jackson Parish
  • Morehouse Parish
  • East Carroll Parish
  • West Carroll Parish
  • Cedar Creek School
  • D'Arbonne Woods Charter School
  • Downsville Charter School
  • Union Christian Academy
  • Ouachita Christian School
  • St. Frederick
  • Jesus The Good Sheperd
  • Excellence Academy
  • University of Louisiana at Monroe
  • Louisiana Tech University 
  • Louisiana Delta Community College - all campuses
  • Grambling State University
  • Strauss Youth Academy for the Arts has canceled classes for Monday afternoon

Other closures:

  • City of Monroe offices closed at 12:30 p.m.
  • Monroe Transit shut down for Monday at 1 p.m.
  • 4th District Court (Ouachita & Morehouse Parish)
  • State Offices across north and central Louisiana 
  • All branches of the Ouachita Parish Public Library
  • All branches of Capital One Bank
