President Donald Trump has selected Anna St. John, a New Orleans-based attorney, for a lifetime role as a federal judge in the Eastern District of Louisiana, which has jurisdiction over southeastern parishes.

St. John is currently part of the Hamilton Lincoln Law Institute, a conservative legal nonprofit organization. She has previously aligned with the Trump administration’s stance, notably defending its position in a case where 16 states challenged the cancellation of nearly $800 million in National Science Foundation grants. The administration later settled the matter by agreeing to reevaluate the cancellations.

In his announcement, Trump commended St. John, calling her an outstanding choice who will uphold and defend the Constitution on the federal bench.
