Baton Rouge, La. (November 18, 2025) — The Louisiana Department of Health has opened applications for the second round of the H.E.R.O. Fund, which will award about $6 million to healthcare training and education programs. Applications are due January 16, 2026.
The H.E.R.O. Fund provides two-year matching grants that expand training capacity, increase student enrollment, support dual enrollment, and reduce barriers for those pursuing high-demand healthcare careers. Earlier this year, 21 funded programs were projected to add 885 healthcare professionals to Louisiana’s workforce, generating nearly $33 million in annual impact.
“Louisiana faces serious healthcare workforce shortages,” said LDH undersecretary Drew Maranto. “The H.E.R.O. Fund is helping us grow the pipeline and retain talent in our state.”
LDH is also requesting additional support to expand partnerships with rural facilities through the Rural Health Transformation Program.
