Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival celebrates 45 years of crafts, music, and food

The Natchitoches-NSU Folk Festival will be hosted at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches in the air-conditioned Prather Coliseum on Saturday, July 19. The event pays tribute to the region’s rich legacy of folk art, music, and storytelling.

Attracting artisans, performers, and musicians from a wide array of backgrounds, the festival provides a fascinating look into Louisiana’s dynamic traditions. Visitors can hear live music performances that span genres such as blues, zydeco, and country, while skilled craftsmen present demonstrations in quilting, pottery, woodworking, and more. Hands-on workshops also allow attendees to explore folk practices that have been lovingly preserved through generations.

Dr. Shane Rasmussen, Director of the Louisiana Folklife Center at Northwestern State University joins Cory Crowe on Lagniappe to discuss the rich folklife traditions of the region.

Originally from Monroe, Cory has worked in a variety of media. He has worked in television news and spent seven years as a TV sports play-by-play announcer. He was also creative director for a television advertising department and worked extensively as a photojournalist. Cory has lived in both Dallas and New Orleans.
