Art enthusiasts are invited to an evening with Louisiana artist Jay N. Davis at the Masur Museum of Art. His free Artist’s Talk will take place on Thursday, June 26, at 6:00 pm at 1400 South Grand Street, Monroe.

A Monroe native, Davis is admired for his vibrant, detailed depictions of Louisiana’s natural beauty. Transitioning from a decade-long career as a lead character animator at Walt Disney in California, Davis infuses his work with a dynamic sense of movement. After traveling the world, he returned to Monroe to focus on creating imagery that celebrates the region’s lush, energetic landscapes.

Davis will share insights into his artistic process, focusing on his recent large-scale mural for the Louisiana Purchase Gardens and Zoo. The talk will include a walkthrough of his creative methods—from early sketches to the completed work—while highlighting the tools and techniques used. Attendees will gain a unique perspective on the complexities of public art.

Davis’s zoo mural serves as a tribute to Louisiana’s nature. A closer look at this project will be presented on June 17, during a 2:00 pm ribbon-cutting at the zoo featuring drone footage of the mural.
