The City of Monroe is set to honor the enduring legacy of Abe Edward Pierce III, a trailblazer and community leader, at a building dedication ceremony on Monday, November 20, 2023, at 1 PM. The event will take place at the Monroe Convention Center, located at 401 Lea Joyner Memorial Expy.

Abe Edward Pierce III, recognized as the first African American elected mayor of Monroe, dedicated his life to civil service and education, leaving an indelible mark on the community. His impact on local governance continued as he served 26 years on the Ouachita Parish Police Jury, ultimately becoming the first African American president of the OPPJ.

The building dedication ceremony will serve as a tribute to Pierce's contributions to education, civil service, and the Monroe community. The event is free to attend and open to the public.
