An LSU graduate student was killed during a robbery at a Baton Rouge gas station.

The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office says a man entered Mr. Lucky's Valero Gas Station around 3:30 a.m. Saturday and shot and killed the clerk, 29-year-old Md Firoz Firoz-Ulamin, before robbing the store.

LSU Director of Media Relations Ernie Ballard says Firoz-Ulamin was a Ph.D. student in the computer science and engineering program at the university. He worked under Golden G. Richard III, a professor who specializes in research on digital forensics, reverse engineering and malware analysis.

LSU President F. King Alexander, in a statement, said the entire LSU community mourns his loss. He says Firoz-Ulamin was "an incredibly gifted student and researcher with such a promising future."
