A St. Landry Parish man has been arrested on automobile insurance fraud-related charges following the Louisiana Department of Insurance's (LDI) referral to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's (SFM) Fire Investigations Unit.
"The LDI is continuing its efforts to hold bad actors accountable, protect policyholders and reduce insurance fraud, which is a cost driver for our already high insurance premiums in Louisiana," said Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple. "I appreciate the hard work done by our partners at the State Fire Marshal's Office and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office."
The LDI Office of Insurance Fraud received a report in July of suspected auto insurance fraud involving Andronicus Edison, 58, of Palmetto, and provided information to the SFM. SFM investigators found that Edison's vehicle was destroyed by a fire in May and that Edison had the vehicle towed to his home in St. Landry Parish prior to filing a fraudulent claim with his insurer. The investigation led to Edison's arrest by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office on October 26.
The LDI encourages Louisiana residents to report suspected insurance fraud by calling 1-800-259-5300 or contacting us online.
