On Saturday, November 7, 2026, the University of Louisiana Monroe will be hosting the annual Walk to End Alzheimer's.
The Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's is held annually in more than 600 communities, and is the world's largest fundraiser for Alzheimer's care, support, and research. All funds raised through this event will further the efforts to combat Alzheimer's Disease. Approximately 7.4 Million people are living with the disease nationwide, and in Louisiana around 95,000 are living with the disease.
Dr. Jennifer Whited, the director of the School of Allied Health at the University of Louisiana Monroe, joined Cory Crowe for an interview on Lagniappe, where she spoke about the Walk to End Alzheimer's.
"The Alzheimer's Association raises money for research for treatment and search for a cure," Dr. Jennifer Whited says. "But it also raises money to provide support services for caregivers and families. And this event is an opportunity for families to get together, come together, and enjoy some time celebrating life and getting to know one another."
Held in The Grove on ULM campus next to the stadium, registration and check-in for this event will last from 8:00-9:00 a.m., with the walk ceremony itself beginning at 9:00 a.m. There is no registration fee, and all ages are welcome and encouraged to join. Every participant must register in order to walk, and sign a standard waiver.
To make this a true family event, a Kids Zone will be available for children to enjoy. The Ouachita Humane Society will be bringing dogs for people to walk and pet if they would like. As well, the Emily Williamson Lab School on ULM's campus will be bringing a mobile solarium to allow kids to experience the solar system.
Music will be presented throughout the day to provide entertainment for everyone. From performances by Boom and Bloom to the ULM Hawkline, the day is packed with activities. Alyssa Freeman, Last year's winner of Bayou Star Search, will also be performing at the end of the walk so that people can enjoy her music while they unwind.
