The City of Monroe and the Monroe Police Department extend their deepest condolences to the family and those affected by this tragedy.

Mayor Friday Ellis and Police Chief Vic Zordan published an official statement to the public and the family regarding the child homicide investigation.

“As a father, my heart breaks for this family. No parent should ever have to endure the unimaginable pain of losing a child. A young man with dreams, promise, and a future yet to be written is gone far too soon. Behind this tragedy is a family whose world has been forever changed and a community grieving alongside them. Right now, they need our love, our prayers. I ask our community to surround them with grace and respect their privacy during this heartbreaking time,” said Monroe Mayor Friday Ellis.

The Ouachita Parish Sheriff's Office is leading the ongoing investigation, with assistance from the Monroe Police Department.

The City of Monroe recognizes the importance of letting investigators complete their work and asks the public to avoid speculation or sharing information not officially confirmed.

The community is asked to respect the privacy of the family, including refraining from publicly identifying the victim. In moments like these, words and actions matter; the public should be mindful of the additional pain that rumors and public commentary can cause.
