Fall Celebration at Black Bayou Lake NWR, Saturday, October 17th, 10-1 p.m.

Saturday, October 17, 2026 will see the return of the annual Friends of Black Bayou Fall Celebration, with many activities available to enjoy.

From birdhouse building, to free canoeing, to a photography contest, there are so many activities available for both kids and adults to experience, all free and open to the public.

This event will begin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 17, and will last until 1:00 p.m. The celebration will start off with a "Walk with Wildlife," a guided nature walk exploring the boardwalks and refuge trails at Black Bayou. Then, 11:00 a.m. will show the turning of the Blue Goose Migration Marker.

Lunch will be served by Big D's Backyard BBQ, while the Friends of Black Bayou offer up the Black Bayou Mud Pies.

Visitors will also be able to view the 2026 photo contest winners, which features eight categories and three divisions—adult-professional, adult-amateur, and youth divisions.
