North Louisiana Economic Partnership (NLEP) has made substantial progress in the demolition of the I-20 Legacy Site, former home of the Libbey Glass manufacturing facility at 4302 Jewella Avenue in Shreveport.
NLEP’s environmental consultant and demolition contractors have successfully completed the removal of environmental contaminants throughout more than 850,000 square feet of existing facilities. This achievement clears the way for full-scale demolition activities and marks a major step forward in preparing one of North Louisiana's most strategically located industrial properties for future investment.
In addition to environmental remediation, all parties involved with the project have prioritized sustainability throughout the demolition process. Approximately 95% of the steel, brick, and concrete materials from the site are being recycled, reducing landfill waste and supporting the responsible reuse of valuable construction materials.
"The work being completed at the I-20 Legacy Site is about more than demolition," Dixon added. "It is about creating opportunity. Every step toward site readiness increases our ability to attract new industry, support existing businesses, and build a stronger economic future for the region."
The redevelopment of the I-20 Legacy Site reflects NLEP's commitment to converting legacy industrial properties into productive economic assets. By removing environmental and physical barriers to development, the organization is reducing project timelines for prospective employers and increasing North Louisiana's competitiveness in the global marketplace.
The public will begin to see visible progress as the site's iconic silos along Jewella Avenue are dismantled. Demolition is expected to continue through to 2027.
