WEST MONROE – The Kiroli Foundation is excited to announce the launch of the Second Annual West Monroe Pet Mayor Contest.
The public is invited to nominate their furry (and not so furry) friends to be in the running for West Monroe Pet Mayor. Nominations are accepted from Tuesday, Oct. 6 through Friday, Oct. 30 and can be submitted online at www.wmpetmayor.com The cost to nominate a pet is $20 per pet. A limited number of slots are available. Nominated pets will be voted on by the public online for two weeks in November for $1 per vote.
West Monroe first launched its Pet Mayor Contest in 2025 with Plumber the Cat earning the first-ever title. Due to Winter Storm Fern and Kiroli Park being closed, the Pet Mayor Contest was delayed this year. Whichever pet is named Pet Mayor this fall will serve in that role throughout 2027.
This year’s contest is sponsored by the Kiroli Foundation, West Monroe West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce, The Neighborhood Vet, LLC and SquarePlanIT.
“Plumber has taken the responsibility of being West Monroe’s first Pet Mayor very seriously—between naps and snacks, of course,” said Dr. Keri Cataldo Rogers owner of The Neighborhood Vet, speaking on behalf of Plumber the Cat. “We’re excited to see who’s got the PAWS for the job next! This contest is a fun way to celebrate our pets while supporting Kiroli Park, and even Plumber agrees that our canine friends deserve a wonderful place to play.”
The winner of the West Monroe Pet Mayor will be recognized at a special program at Kiroli Park and will be recognized at a future West Monroe City Council meeting. Thanks to The Neighborhood Vet, LLC, the new winner will receive a free annual visit and vaccination and a gift basket. Proceeds from the Pet Mayor contest will be used for needed projects and improvements at Kiroli Park, specifically the Raising Cane’s Dog Park.
