LPB's LA64 tours Ouachita Parish

From canoeing on Black Bayou to eating at Parish Restaurant & Bar, LA64 tours Ouachita Parish in an effort to highlight one of the oldest parishes in Louisiana.

LA64 is a new, original Louisiana Public Broadcasting (LPB) travel series that features all 64 parishes across Louisiana.

This program captures parts of Louisiana in ways that many may not ever see it. LA64 highlights Louisiana parishes by uncovering lesser known wonders, local traditions, and more. This series shines a spotlight on Louisiana's music, food, history, and communities; all one parish at a time.

LPB host and ULM Alumni Karen LeBlanc comes back to KEDM for an interview with Cory Crowe on Lagniappe. LeBlanc started her journalism career at KEDM while in school at the University of Louisiana Monroe.

"It's a five-year commitment. Each episode focuses on a single parish, each a half-hour episode. So we travel the state and we spend a week in each parish," said Karen LeBlanc. "Right now we're in Ouachita Parish for a week. It's never been done before. We've has many shows about Louisiana, nut never a series that, you know, focuses on a single parish, but every parish gets its own spotlight."

LA64 is now in production of Season 2, which will feature Ouachita Parish in one of 13 episodes. Currently only the first season is posted and available to watch, consisting of 12 episodes as well as a bonus compilation of memorable moments from the first season.

"The show is really just about 'Come along with me on this journey.' And it's very immersive," said Karen LeBlanc. "It's not very polished, it's just very real. And that's the whole point is meeting, you know, the culture keepers, the musicians, the cooks, the storytellers, the artisans."
