Louisiana Delta Community College hosted campus safety and active threat response training

The two-day training featured Site Protection through Observational Techniques for Institutions of Higher Education Personnel and Surviving an Active Threat: Run Hide Fight. The training was provided by the LSU National Center for Biomedical Research and Training, a national training and education center that provides preparedness and response training for communities and organizations.

A different group of LDCC students, faculty, and staff participated each day in full-day training sessions designed to strengthen situational awareness and emergency decision-making.

Participants worked through realistic scenarios involving potential campus violence, including simulated shootings and screams. These scenarios allowed participants to practice how they might respond during an emergency on campus.

LDCC Police Chief Kenneth Thompson coordinated the training as part of the college's ongoing efforts to promote safety and preparedness throughout its campuses. “Providing LDCC with the opportunity to participate in realistic emergency scenarios is an important part of building a safer and more prepared campus community,” said LDCC Police Chief Kenneth Thompson.

“These trainings give participants the opportunity to think through how they would respond in an emergency before they are ever faced with one. We appreciate LSU NCBRT for bringing this valuable training to LDCC and everyone who took the time to participate.”

The training is part of LDCC's continued commitment to campus safety and emergency preparedness. By providing hands-on opportunities for students and employees to learn, practice and respond to simulated emergencies, the college aims to help its campus community better understand how to recognize potential threats and respond appropriately.
