On Thursday, October 1, the city of Monroe welcomed Timothy Williams as he assumed his duties as the new Fire Chief of the Monroe Fire Department. The city also recognized Chief Maxey’s leadership during the transition and the work of MFD personnel in earning another Class 1 Public Fire Protection Classification, the highest rating under the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana’s system.
“I am excited and honored to welcome Fire Chief Timothy Williams to the Monroe Fire Department,” said Monroe Fire Department Chief Fire Investigator ShaBrodrick Jones. “Having known Chief Williams for several years, I know firsthand that he is a respected leader who brings experience, dedication, and a strong commitment to the fire service. I look forward to working alongside him as he continues to lead, strengthen, and advance our department.”
Williams is said to bring decades of previous fire-service experience, including his service as Fire Chief in Bastrop. He plans to prioritize training, modernizing operations, supporting firefighters, and building community relationships.
Mayor Friday Ellis showed his support by thanking Governor Jeff Landry for his continued partnership and recognizing the firefighters who maintained the department’s mission throughout the leadership transition.
“Our firefighters have carried the mission. Today, we give them the permanent leadership they deserve,” Mayor Ellis said.
“Today, I’m excited to begin a new chapter as Chief of the Monroe Fire Department,” said Monroe Fire Chief Timothy Williams. “I also want to sincerely thank Governor Jeff Landry for his confidence and support, and Mayor Friday Ellis for his confidence in me and his commitment to public safety and the citizens of Monroe. I am honored by the opportunity to serve this community. I look forward to meeting the men and women of this department, earning their trust, and providing the leadership necessary to build on the strengths of this organization. I also look forward to working closely with our city leaders and community partners to carry out the mission of the Monroe Fire Department and provide the citizens of Monroe with the highest level of service possible. I want the citizens of Monroe to know that I take this responsibility seriously. I am honored to serve you, and I’m excited about what we can accomplish together.”
