WEST MONROE, La. — September 11, 2026 — On the 25th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks, the West Monroe–West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce once again brought together local businesses, volunteers and community partners to honor the men and women who serve and protect our community during its annual First Responders Appreciation Day.
More than 500 to-go lunches were packed Friday morning by volunteers and distributed to local first responders across the community as a simple but meaningful expression of gratitude.
For 25 years, September 11 has remained a solemn reminder of sacrifice, courage and service. The Chamber is proud to continue its commitment to recognizing the law enforcement officers, firefighters, emergency medical personnel and other first responders who answer the call each day. This year’s theme, “We honor and remember because they serve,” reflected both the significance of the anniversary and the Chamber’s continued appreciation for those who dedicate themselves to serving others.
“Twenty-five years after September 11, the importance of recognizing those who put service before self remains as meaningful as ever,” said Kristopher Kelley, CEO of the West Monroe–West Ouachita Chamber of Commerce. “We are proud of our continued commitment to honoring our local first responders, and we are equally proud of the way our business community continues to come together to make this tradition possible. More than 500 meals went out this morning, but the message behind each one was simple: we see you, we appreciate you, and we are grateful for your service.”
Volunteers gathered early Friday morning to assemble and prepare the meals for distribution. The effort was made possible through the generosity of numerous local businesses and organizations that donated funding, food, supplies, services and volunteer support.
The Chamber thanked the many volunteers who gave their time Friday morning to pack, organize and prepare the hundreds of meals for delivery.
“This event is a reflection of what makes our community special,” Kelley added. “Businesses, organizations and volunteers step forward together because they understand the importance of showing appreciation to those who are there for us on our hardest days. We are honored to continue this tradition and to say thank you on behalf of our Chamber and our community.”
