On Friday, September 11, 2026, the City of Monroe will assemble for a Remembrance Ceremony of 9/11, in honor of the lives lost as well as the heroes who responded on 9/11. This ceremony will start at 8:46 AM, and will be held at the Public Safety Center.
"It's just a time for us to take the time to honor and respect those that lost their lives, as well as remember those that were impacted by it," said Shabroderick Jones, Chief Fire Investigator for the City of Monroe. "You know, some family members are still having to deal with that."
Danielle Barton, the Executive Assistant to Mayor Friday Ellis, will be a guest speaker for this ceremony, giving some insight on how she was impacted by the events of 9/11, as well as what happened after with military deployment.
This ceremony provides an opportunity for the Monroe community to gather together to remember and reflect upon the tragedy that occurred.
