Beginning at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 24, 2026, The Salvation Army of Monroe will be hosting A Taste of Louisiana. The event will be held at the West Monroe Sports and Events Center, and will last until 1:30 p.m.
A Taste of Louisiana is an event where the community can come together and enjoy a nice meal while also helping The Salvation Army Monroe.
In an interview with Cory Crowe on Lagniappe, Captain Jerry Casey from the Monroe Salvation Army and Linda O'Neal, an advisory board member, each spoke briefly about the event and The Salvation Army Monroe itself.
"It's gonna be for our veterans. It's gonna be for our community," said Captain Jerry Cassey. "It's gonna be for the people that need help, that don't quite know how to help themselves right now."
When asked how she got involved in The Salvation Army, Linda O'Neal said, "Well, when Captain came to town, he came to my business where I work, which I work for Origin Bank, and he presented to his story to me and my manager, Billy Haddad, and it just drove to my heart that he needs help, and we need to help them. So, I joined the board at that time."
"We're open 365 days a year. It's an emergency nighttime shelter, that's what it's called. But I'll be honest with you, it's a lot more than that," said Captain Jerry Casey. "If it's raining out, they come on in. If it's been hot the way it's been hot, we've been opening up four or give hours early every single day."
Any profit received from this event will be funneled straight back into The Salvation Army Monroe towards operations that keep the shelter open.
This event will be free to all veterans who decide to attend. Single tickets will be $35, while tables of 8 will cost $500.
