Join the members of Strauss Youth Academy as they open the season this September with The Wizard of Oz, traveling all the way through the Land of Oz to the Emerald City. Follow along as Dorothy and her companion Toto begin their journey in search of a way home, making new friends and enemies along the way.
The Wizard of Oz will begin public performances September 12-13 & 19-20, 2026, while school performances will happen September 10 & 17, 2026.
From ages 8 to 18, children from all walks of life will contribute to this performance, whether they're among the 40 on stage, or the 20 running the show behind the scenes.
In an interview with Cory Crowe at Lagniappe, Emily Stogner, the Director of The Wizard of Oz, talks briefly about the show and the message behind it.
"They are all searching for something. They all think that this Wizard of Oz has it, so they go in search of it all to then end up realizing that everything that they thought they wanted, they already had," said Emily Stogner. "I think it's a really great lesson in life to just be appreciative and content with where we're at."
But The Wizard of Oz isn't the only upcoming show for SYAA, the 2026 season will also consist of Sherlock Holmes, Holiday Hoedown, and Seussical the Musical before finally ending with Charlotte's Webb.
All shows will be performed at the Strauss Youth Academy for the Arts at 1300 Lamy Lane, Monroe LA.
