Juvenile arrested after firearm report at Louisiana Delta Community College, causing campus shutdown

WEST MONROE, LA — On August 27, 2026 at approximately 12:15 p.m., law enforcement responded to an incident involving a report of an armed individual on the Louisiana Delta Community College West Monroe Campus.

The incident was initially reported through the Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office (OPSO) Dispatch Center, which received information regarding an armed person on campus. Ouachita Parish Sheriff’s Office Deputies, LDCC Police Officers, and the Louisiana State Police responded to the campus and immediately began working to locate and secure the individual.

Law enforcement officers successfully located the armed individual, who was taken into custody without incident. During the investigation, law enforcement discovered a piston concealed inside the juvenile's backpack.

The juvenile was subsequently arrested and charged with:

  • Possession of a Firearm on a School Campus
  • Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile

As a precautionary measure, the campus was placed on lockdown while law enforcement officers responded and investigated the situation. Once the campus was cleared and determined to be secure by responding law enforcement personnel, the lockdown was lifted.

Ouachita Parish Sheriff Marc Mashaw commended the faculty, staff, and students at Louisiana Delta Community College for their cooperation, which allowed deputies to respond quickly and effectively. He also praised the deputies and other first responders for their coordinated and professional response. Mashaw said, “the incident highlights the importance of regular emergency training and preparation, helping everyone respond calmly, safely, and efficiently when unexpected situations arise.”

This is an ongoing investigation and any additional information regarding the incident will be released as it becomes available and as the investigation permits.
