This year's West Monroe Gar Rodeo is kicking off starting Friday, August 28th at 7pm and lasting until Saturday morning at 10am.
A gar rodeo is a unique fishing tournament focused on catching one of Louisiana's most ancient and rugged fish - the gar. This event contains several divisions like jug fishing, pole fishing, bowfishing, and even contains youth categories.
The Gar Rodeo will kick off with a concert by Chancie Neal with Ouachita Live, starting at 7pm and ending around 9pm. Entry is free but donations are encouraged.
Divisions include the Big 3 in jug, pole, catfish, bowfishing, youth gar, and youth catfish — as well as bowfishing numbers only and overall big fish. Each division has their own prize money being awarded, cover 100% by registration fees.
Registration begins at 6pm on August 28th, but if you can't make that — no worries! Late registrations are available from 9pm to Midnight.
Seating is limited for this event, so it is recommended to get there early, however guests may bring their own chairs as well.
