Building the future: How a new training program is preparing NELA for the Meta Data Center job boom

The Meta Data Center project is expanding and so is the workforce. DPR Construction, Turner Construction, and Louisiana Delta Community College (LDCC) have launched the Construction Craft Laborer Training Program to help fill the need of nearly 7,000 more workers to complete the construction project.

The program offers local residents a pathway into advanced-tech construction careers, with four weeks of classroom learning at LDCC focusing on construction basics and safety, followed by a week of hands-on experience at the Meta site.

Scholarships make the program accessible by removing financial barriers, paving the way for competitive wages and career growth in construction.

Applications are due by July 24th, with classes from August 3rd to September 4th. Aspiring participants can apply through LDCC's website or on-campus.

Cory Crowe speaks with DPR Project Manager Justin Strzelecki, Turner Construction Community Engagement Director Tamaka Thornton, and LDCC's Nathan Hall about the upcoming classes.

Originally from Monroe, Cory has worked in a variety of media. He has worked in television news and spent seven years as a TV sports play-by-play announcer. He was also creative director for a television advertising department and worked extensively as a photojournalist. Cory has lived in both Dallas and New Orleans.
