The fearsome megatoothed shark will be the topic of Dr. Gary Stringer’s presentation on June 25, starting at 5:30 p.m., in the Union Museum of History and Art. Dr. Stringer will focus on fossils found at the Copenhagen fossil site in Caldwell Parish, where paleontologists have discovered remains dated at 34 million years old (the Eocene in age). The Copenhagen site is most famous for its primitive whale fossils, but an ancestral megatoothed shark also has been recovered.
Those attending the June 25 talk will see actual fossil shark teeth, as well as images of ancient sharks: Otodus auriculatus and Otodus megalodon. Admission is free.
Dr. Stringer is Professor Emeritus of Geology at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and is a frequent speaker on topics of geology, paleontology and archaeology.
The museum is located at 211 N. Main Street, Farmerville, LA.
