Union Museum holds sheath making class

Leather knife sheath
Union Museum of History and Art

The Union Museum of History and Art is offering an opportunity for craft enthusiasts and knife aficionados alike. On Saturday, June 13, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the museum will host a hands-on workshop led by Ron Butler, also known as Buckskin Billy, a skilled artisan in leathercraft.

Participants in the workshop will learn the step-by-step process of creating a custom leather sheath for their favorite knife. The session will cover making a pattern, transferring it to leather, cutting, and hand-sewing the final product. While this workshop does not include decorative techniques, attendees will leave with a fully functional and personalized sheath.

The cost of the workshop is $40, and space is limited. Interested individuals are encouraged to reserve their spot by calling 318-982-8020 no later than June 10.

This event is part of the museum’s Folkcraft workshop series, which celebrates traditional crafts and skills. The Union Museum of History and Art is located at 211 N. Main Street in Farmerville. Don’t miss this chance to create something both practical and uniquely your own!
