Severe thunderstorms possible Tuesday afternoon into Tuesday night

A map shows a severe weather threat across north Louisiana. The primary threats will be damaging winds and quarter size hail.
NOAA / NWS Shreveport

A frontal boundary will move slowly south and east into the Middle Red River Valley of Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma and Southwest Arkansas Tuesday Afternoon before stalling Tuesday Night. With the aid of Tuesday afternoon heating, strong to severe thunderstorms will be possible along this boundary. Even though the cold front will stall well north and west of the Interstate 30 Corridor Tuesday night, these storms could propagate south and east of the frontal boundary, impacting much of Northeast Texas, Southeast Oklahoma, Southwest Arkansas and Northwest Louisiana through Tuesday night.

Strong and damaging wind gusts will be the main threat with these storms with large hail also possible. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, especially if it can become embedded in a line of thunderstorms during the late evening hours Tuesday. Locally heavy rainfall will also be possible with flooding possible across flood prone and poor drainage areas.

KEY POINTS
  • Damaging thunderstorm wind gusts will be the main threat.
  • Large hail and locally heavy downpours will also be possible.
  • While tornadoes are not likely, an isolated tornado threat could develop.
