MONROE, La. — The University of Louisiana Monroe cheerleading team captured its sixth national championship, earning first place in the Small Co-Ed Traditional division at the College Classic Cheerleading Championship held April 10–12, 2026, in Orlando, Florida.
ULM finished first in a competitive field of eight teams, including Oral Roberts University and the University of South Alabama. After receiving a 1.25-point deduction on the first day of competition, the team rebounded with a zero-deduction routine on day two to secure the title.
Head coach Sammi Spivey Tucker said the championship reflects the team’s discipline, resilience, and commitment throughout the season. The 24-member team, made up of seven returning athletes and 17 newcomers, faced challenges leading up to nationals, including the loss of six team members that required multiple routine adjustments.
The victory comes after ULM was unable to compete at the 2025 national competition due to injuries. The program previously won a national championship in 2023 and finished as runner-up in 2024.
In addition to the national title, the team earned a “Wow Moment” award for its pyramid performance, with Tucker noting the routine was one of the most difficult performed by ULM Cheer in more than a decade.
Team captains Lydia DarDar and Freddie Lewis said the win represents the team’s perseverance, unity, and dedication after a challenging season.
